Hey friends,
Happy New Year!
I'm back after taking a few weeks off for R&R and some exploration off of my normal beaten path. I can't think about smart buildings 24/7/365, can I?
Before we talk about smart buildings, I have some carveouts to share from my explorations:
I also found an amazing ski trail through the trees at Breckenridge. But if I shared the exact location, I'd hafta kill ya. 😜
As you can see from my listening and reading list, I've been thinking a lot about business strategy. As a technical founder without a business background, it's a necessity to continuously learn so I can navigate my blind spots: hiring, finance, growth, etc.
Over the last few years, my learning practice of reading business books and taking online courses has changed my life. I've read continuously and taken courses in writing, marketing, product strategy, venture capital, and more that have helped round out my skillset. This practice is a big reason you're reading this right now!
Here's the thing: Any of you can apply this same strategy to your smart buildings learning journey. You can create your own personal learning practice. It starts with a healthy balance of humility and self-compassion.
As Evelyn says in Everything Everywhere All At Once: "We're All Small And Stupid." That's the humility part.
But as her husband Waymond says: "The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind. Especially when we don't know what's going on." That's the self-compassion part. Our world is rapidly evolving—we must be nice to ourselves as we find our way.
In 2023, we at Nexus Labs plan to create a lot more content to aid in your personal learning practices. But for now, our existing resources are an amazing place to start:
That's over 50,000 free words to kickstart your learning this year. And when you're ready to take the plunge into our paid content, the Nexus Pro membership and the Nexus Foundations course are here to support your journey.
Here's the thing about personal learning practices though: it's on you to make it what you want it to be. And it's not always easy. You gotta make the time and put in the effort.
Let's go!
What's on your learning list this year?
