Hi Friends,
Following up on our Nexus Labs Wrapped 2024: Buyer’s Guides, this week, we’re excited to wrap up your favorite podcasts of the year! Available everywhere you get your podcasts (Apple | Spotify | YouTube | Other apps), the Nexus podcast is our chance to explore and learn with the brightest in our industry—together.
We identified the top three most-listened-to podcasts of 2024. If you missed any of these episodes, you’re going to want to give them a listen… a great way to exercise your brain on your drive or flight home for the holidays. Also, it’s a great time to get caught up because we’re gearing up to provide you with even more non-fluffy smart buildings content in 2025. See you in the new year!
And now, for your favorite podcasts of 2024…
Episode 160 features Nathan Morris from KIPP DC, Stephen Dawson-Haggerty from Normal Software, and Terry Herr from Intellimation. This conversation explores KIPP’s implementation of Normal Software with the support of Intellimation to better manage school facilities and increase savings to bring money back into the classrooms.
This episode was part of our Case Study series, looking at real-life, large-scale deployments of smart building technologies. As Nathan hightlights in the conversation, most school systems are not financially efficient. Facilities are outdated, rundown, and poorly managed. By creating an independent data layer, KIPP can avoid vendor lock-in and simplify comparisons between technology options, which helps save money and get it back into the classroom, where it is needed the most.
Episode 168 explores workforce trends in the smart building industry. Nexus Lab’s mission is to accelerate the transition to digital and decarbonized buildings, and people are a massive part of that goal. To address the state of talent in our industry, we have to talk about it. And while technology can help solve the problem by automating tasks and using data to make people more efficient, it can’t solve everything.
James was joined in this episode by Lewis Martin, founder of LMC, Lawrence Trifiletti from LONG, and Nicholas Gayeski from Clockworks to discuss the importance of attracting new talent, balancing technical expertise with consultative skills, and addressing the industry's talent shortage.
Episode #163 was part of our Owner’s Outlook series, where we chat with building owners from different verticals to check in on what’s new and what excites them these days. In our Higher Ed Roundup, we talked with Gerry Hamilton from Stanford University, Dan Quigley from Boston University, and Durga Sarilla from Kansas State University.
Each of these institutions have varying degrees of smart buildings program maturity and deployments, with several different projects ongoing. We dig into each of them, and discuss the larger trends in higher education and why smart buildings matter to their industry.
And that’s a wrap on the Nexus podcast for 2024. You can get all of our episodes wherever you get your podcasts (Apple | Spotify | YouTube | Other apps), or listen on our website. What do you want to hear in 2025? Let us know.
