NexusCon Planning: Behind the Scenes

June 12, 2024

Hey Friends,

We sit 112 days from the first annual NexusCon, but who’s counting?

I can confidently tell you that the Nexus Labs team is counting down the days.  We’ve been heads-down organizing an agenda that will provide deep educational content, an expo hall to demo tech solutions, and networking opportunities meant to expand your network (not just reinforcing existing relationships), all while keeping a non-salesy undertone.

Our community has submitted over 60 abstracts on topics that inspire and motivate change-makers. We’ve been strategically sorting through all of these abstracts, ruling out anything that’s too salesy or irrelevant, and pairing common-themed abstracts together into 90-minute educational sessions that will give you a diverse perspective on a corner of the industry.

We’re excited to let our community behind the scenes and start seeing this agenda come to life in real-time. On the NexusCon page, you can begin to scroll the conference agenda and filter by topic, speaker, building vertical, and conference track.

We will have four conference tracks, each with a specific smart building persona in mind to help you find the content that aligns most with your experience and job duties.

  • Strategist: for program managers focused on strategy and managing the smart buildings program.
  • Practitioner: for end users, engineers, and integrators focused on solving in-depth problems on individual projects.
  • Foundations: featuring introductory sessions aimed at teaching the fundamentals and making newcomers feel welcome and supported.
  • Champions: for program managers who are leading the transition to smart buildings across a portfolio.

As the agenda settles into place, you’ll be able to curate the best NexusCon experience for you based on what you care about, making it truly an industry-leading conference experience. We wouldn’t have set out to make a conference if we didn’t think we could do it better!

📣 But we still need your help! 📣

Thank you to all who have submitted abstracts thus far, but there is still support we need from our community:

1. Have you bought a ticket?

This conference is limited to 350 people. Make sure to claim your ticket soon before they run out. If you are a smart building technology buyer or building owner, your ticket is FREE this year! But we still need you to claim it so that your spot is reserved. Send us a message to get on the list.

For the rest of the community, we need you to buy tickets so we can afford the venue and to feed you all. You can buy tickets here.

2. Calling all smart building women

Only 10% of the abstracts we received feature a woman. We are striving to bring diverse voices and perspectives to the stage at NexusCon, it elevates the thinking of the whole community. Help us find the women voices of the industry who would deliver great educational content. Let us know who you’d like to see speak at NexusCon.

3. Moderators wanted

We refuse to let our educational sessions be death by PowerPoint with no crowd interaction. Aside from incredible speakers, this requires passionate moderators in each room. “Passionate moderators” bring energy, are expressive, and are okay steering the ship (think amateur gameshow-host-esque). If that sounds like you, we encourage you to sign up to be part of the fun and contribute to the conference. Apply to be a moderator here.

112 days is both too much time and not enough all at once. We can’t wait to see you in Denver on September 30th for a conference truly unique to what you have experienced in the past.
