Hey friends,
We’ve been convening the changemakers of the smart buildings industry for 4 years. In 2024, it's time to finally meet up in person—at the very first NexusCon.
Yet our first conference is more than just a meetup for our online community. The smart buildings industry deserves a different conference.
Less than 30% of the Nexus community is satisfied with existing conference options. Buyers want to learn more. They tell us that pay-to-play content hurts the educational experience, plus there's not enough expert-level content. Vendors say the same thing—plus they wish they met more interested buyers.
This is an industry that lags behind most others in terms of technology adoption. It's also an industry that needs to rapidly decarbonize. It's time for a conference reflecting the urgency required to break through the stale status quo.
We know how difficult it is to plan an event. We have lots of respect for the other conference organizers. BUT, it feels like we gotta try to shake things up.

📚Education First
In-depth education on best practices and shortcomings—not fluff stories, not panels full of sponsors. Grounded in real-world examples and use cases. Grounded in the reality of how things can actually get done within operational constraints and challenges. Cutting-edge innovation balanced with proven tech.
🚀Mission-Driven and Theme-Focused
Nexus Labs exists to accelerate the transition to digital and decarbonized buildings. All of our education and collaboration will reinforce and build on that mission, plus one or more themes for the conference (coming soon).
🛤️Pick a track; Less FOMO
Educational sessions and structured discussions will be organized around three tracks based on role.
You’ll stay put in your room throughout the conference so you’ll always know where to be.
🛒Connecting vetted vendors with ready buyers
Beyond the education, we at Nexus Labs think there's an opportunity for better networking. Buyers want to meet and spend time with other buyers. Buyers also want to meet vendors, but don't want to be aggressively attacked by salespeople.
We’ll skip the traditional expo floor in favor of a simple, no-fuss space for Nexus Marketplace Partners to set up shop and conduct demos and conversations. Each educational track room will also feature demos (from a buyer/seller team) sprinkled throughout the agenda, showcasing the latest innovations.
🤝Learn from your peers in closed-door sessions
During a closed-door session, the buyer symposium will focus on knowledge transfer between buyers and other buyers. The vendor partnering symposium, also a closed-door session, will provide space for vendors to collaborate and move us forward by meeting potential partners. The rest of the time will be spent commingled in the track of your choice.
😎Have some fun in the Rocky Mountain sun
Finally, we’ll serve you great food, drinks, and coffee, and we’ll spend time outside in the wonderful fall weather. Fun structured and unstructured networking activities will create serendipitous collisions between all attendees.
Excited? Us too.
You should know that our first conference will have a very limited capacity (250-300). That means that only 3% of the people getting this newsletter will be able to attend. That’s less than half of our Nexus Pro members, and less than half of our Buyer Community.
We’re starting small so we can provide an intimate experience. And frankly, because we have a small team who don’t yet know what the f*ck we’re doing. 🤷♂️
Because of the space limit and intimacy we’re striving for, we’re putting strict limits in place so we can have the right balance of stakeholders. We’ll have:
We’re prioritizing these groups because we want to focus on case studies and knowledge sharing from real projects. To paraphrase from Thano Lambrinos, we’re going to talk about lessons learned from what we’ve done, not talk about maybe doing stuff in the future.
If math isn’t your thing, that means we’ll only have a small number of tickets for everyone who doesn’t fit into those two buckets above.
The first 50 tickets are available today at the lowest price they’ll ever be (Limit 2 per company). Based on our latest community survey, we expect these to go fast.
After those are sold, NexusCon will be invite only.
Check out the details and register at the link below to get your ticket.
Hope to see you in Colorado in 2024!
