Welcome to our Partner Pulse series. Nexus Labs’ Partners are at the forefront of the smart buildings revolution. With any revolution, there is continuous change while momentum builds. We want to keep our audience informed of accomplishments, breakthroughs, deployments, and developments within the companies leading our industry. We hope you enjoy this straightforward summary of what’s new at ACE IoT Solutions, one of the leaders in the Independent Data Layer category.
Back in 2021, ACE IoT Solutions’ co-founder Andrew Rodgers sat down with us in a podcast to chat about what open source really means and the vision ACE IoT had for the future of open source. They’ve been hard at work for three years in bringing that vision to life. Today, we sat down with the other co-founder, Bill Maguire, to get a pulse on what’s occurred in the last year.
ACE IoT Solutions, a software company based in Chattanooga, TN, offers a unique independent data layer (IDL) solution that leverages open-source tools, including Eclipse VOLTTRON. This IDL solution is specifically designed to meet the requirements of energy engineers, commissioning professionals, and other building system optimization experts. By helping them overcome data acquisition and system integration complexities, ACE IoT's IDL solution empowers our customers to optimize the performance of more buildings.
We’re now deployed in 100’s of buildings across the globe.
We sell our software and services to commissioning firms and energy engineering firms. These firms use our technology tools and services to deliver value to their clients – in most cases, these are building owners and operators.
Our customers choose to work with ACE IoT because they are seeking technology tools that allow them to optimize the operation of buildings more effectively. HVAC and power data is a critical input into the development of effective Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs). For our customers, ACE IoT establishes and maintains reliable data pipelines.
ACE IoT meets our customers at conferences, through our participation in technical standards development (e.g., ASHRAE 223P), via organizations like Nexus Labs (!), and through word-of-mouth.
Our customers deploy ACE IoT's data acquisition solution on-site via a pre-configured gateway that ACE IoT mails to the site. ACE IoT manages and maintains the IDL solutions remotely.
Some of the commissioning firms and engineering firms that use our products and services include Bernhard, BTune by Beca, Cx Associates, Functional Energy Solutions, Rede Energy Solutions, Setty, and Stok.
EMR Associates is one of our leading manufacturer’s reps. They help us get our software into the hands of customers who need it.
We now have five employees, including our two co-founders. We’ve added solutions architects to help improve the deployment of our product to specific customers.
Nothing! We’re boot-strapped, baby!
New VOLTTRON Integration with Desigo provides a new tool for acquiring data from legacy Siemens equipment.
Desigo, or Desigo CC, is Siemens Building Technologies' flagship building automation software platform. Being one of the largest providers of smart building platforms in the US today, this integration unlocks a massive amount of building data for owners to consolidate into the ACE IoT IDL. Most large control providers developed proprietary languages for their devices to communicate in the 90’s and 2000’s. Siemens called their proprietary languages P1 and P2. While this made communication between devices of the same manufacturer easy, it made it nearly impossible to get data to and from these systems to any outside platforms. When IDLs are capable of acquiring data from legacy equipment that speaks proprietary languages, it bypasses the need for building owners to update their Device Layer infrastructure before getting essential equipment information into an IDL.
The new integration should be a game-changer for entities tasked with designing and deploying advanced Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) in buildings with Siemens Desigo software running on top of legacy controllers. ACE IoT has released the Desigo-VOLTTRON integration as an open-source project.
As an open-source project, other entities outside of ACE IoT can contribute to the Desigo-VOLTTRON integration to make it as robust as possible. The concept of open-source is paramount to ACE IoT’s approach. We recommend you review the podcast with Andrew Rogers of ACE IoT (also linked above) for more information on what “open” means to ACE IoT.
Rebranding of ACE IoT's Offering as the Aerodrome Suite. The re-brand defines and distinguishes key capabilities of ACE IoT's solution. New webpages for Aerodrome and its components parts - SkyHook, FlightDeck, and Navigator went live on May 31, 2024.
As part of the rebranding, ACE IoT is making available a series of self-service tools that customers can use to adjust the data collected, the frequency of the collection, and other parameters using the FlightDeck interface.
New capabilities, same commitment to service and our customer's success!
Stay tuned for additional self-service tools later in 2024!
