Turning Data into Gold: The Business Case for IoT Sensors, Plus Case Studies

March 4, 2025

Welcome to our NexusCon 2024 event recordings! These recordings and slides are available for Nexus Pro Members only.

About NexusCon

The industry needed a different type of conference, so we built it. NexusCon 2024 was full of sponsor-free content, real-world case studies, and most importantly, our community.

We heard from 109 speakers across 24 different sessions over a span of 3 days. Although nothing beats the in-person real-time learnings from NexusCon, we are excited to release the NexusCon session recordings to our Nexus Pro Community. We have over 40 hours of hot takes, knowledge bombs, collaborations, and disagreements among smart buildings industry experts to share with you.

About the Session

IoT sensors have changed the world. Nearly anything that can sense a piece of the environment can be internet-connected with its data available anywhere. But technology for the sake of technology is a losing strategy. Successful deployment of IoT sensors within the built environment relies on creating value. When IoT sensors are implemented with value creation in mind, the data transforms into gold.

In this session, we’ll cover the following briefings:

Beyond the Bottom Line: Counting People, Countless Returns

We’ll hear from HH Angus and Manulife on the landscape of people counting IoT projects, and how Manulife has improved the quality of life of their tenants through space utilization projects.

Good, Better, Best: A Hierarchy for Implementing Indoor Air Quality Sensors in Buildings

The US Green Building Council, the General Services Administration, and Kaiterra will share the “good, better, best” tiers of indoor air quality (IAQ) sensor implementation that can support real outcomes, including investment decisions, sustainability reporting, facility management, capital planning, and tenant attraction.

The Power of Water

Kilroy Realty on their leak detection program, which has lowered the risk of water's destructive power lurking within all of our buildings.

By intentionally highlighting case studies from different types of sensors, we’ll come together at the end of this session and find the common themes of turning sensor data into gold, regardless of the application.
